This policy outlines our ongoing obligations to you in respect to how we manage your Personal Information.

WHAT IS PERSONAL INFORMATION + WHY DO WE COLLECT IT?

Personal Information is information or an opinion that identifies an individual.  Examples of Personal Information we collect includes names, addresses, email addresses, phone and facsimile numbers.

This Personal Information is obtained in many ways including (but not limited to) through our meetings with you, via any correspondence that you show us or we’re sent, through documentation that is provided to us, by telephone and facsimile, by email, via our website cannygroup.com.au, from your website or social media, from media and publications, from other publicly available sources, from cookies and from third parties.  We don’t guarantee the website links or policies of authorised third parties.

We collect your Personal Information for the primary purpose of providing our services to you, providing information to our clients and for marketing purposes.  We may also use your Personal Information for secondary purposes closely related to the primary purpose, in circumstances where you would reasonably expect such use or disclosure.

You may unsubscribe from our mailing/marketing lists at any time by contacting us in writing.

When we collect Personal Information we will, where appropriate and where possible, explain to you why we are collecting the information and how we plan to use it.

SENSITIVE INFORMATION

Sensitive information is defined in the Privacy Act to include information or opinions about such things as an individual’s racial or ethnic origin, political opinions, membership of a political association, religious or philosophical beliefs, memberships of a trade union or other professional body, criminal record of health information.

  • For a secondary purpose that is directly related to the primary purpose; or

In the provision of our services to you, we may provide information to other parties or agents, or take actions on or make enquiries in relation to the conduct of your matter, on your behalf.

For our Canny Advisory clients only, to external service suppliers both here and overseas who supply administrative, financial and other services to assist us in providing financial advice and services to you.

SECURITY OF PERSONAL INFORMATION

Your Personal Information is stored in a manner that reasonably protects it from misuse and loss and from unauthorised access, modification or disclosure.

When your Personal Information is no longer needed for the purpose for which it was obtained, we will take reasonable steps to destroy or permanently de-identify your Personal Information.  However, most of the Personal Information is or will be stored in client files which will be kept by us for a minimum of seven years.

WEBSITE INFORMATION

Canny Group website collects anonymous information through web servers.  Information such as the number, date and timing of visits to the website, and the pages of the website visited frequently is collected for statistical purposes only and to assist us in improving our services.

This website also uses “cookies” (small data files that are sent to your computer).  These cookies do not collect personal information.  They assist us to make your experience of our website easier and more efficient for you.  For instance, if you choose to personalise this website, the cookies will enable the site to remember your preferred settings for your subsequent visits.

CANNY GROUP APP USERS

This Privacy Policy also applies to users of the Canny Group App.  The following explains how the Canny Group App (App) accesses, collects, uses, shares and discloses personal data.

We may access and collect your personal data through your use of the App in two different ways:

  • Through data you provide to us – when you voluntarily provide us with such data through your use of the App; and
  • Through data collected automatically – when you use our App, we may use cookies and other similar tracking technologies to gather information automatically, such as your IP address, data that is made available for us via the App developer, device information and the number, date and timing of uses of the App.

We may use the data collected via your use of the App for the following purposes:

  • To operate and improve the App, including: enabling you to use the App’s features; establishing and maintaining your account; communicating with you and the App, including by sending you announcements, updates, and security alerts which we may send via push notifications; responding to your requests, questions and feedback; providing technical support and maintenance for the App; and performing statistical analysis about the use of the App;
  • To send you marketing and promotional communications to you; and
  • To help in the provision of our services to you.

You may access the Personal Information we hold about you, and you are able to update and/or correct it, subject to certain expectations.  If you wish to access your Personal Information, please contact us in writing.

Canny Group will not charge any fee for your access request, but may charge an administrative fee for providing a copy of your Personal Information.

In order to protect your Personal Information we may require identification from you before releasing the requested information.

MAINTAINING THE QUALITY OF YOUR PERSONAL INFORMATION

It is important to us that your Personal Information is up to date.  We will take reasonable steps to make sure that your Personal Information is accurate, complete and up-to-date.  If you find that the information we have is not up to date or is inaccurate, please advise us as soon as practicable so we can update our records and ensure we can continue to provide quality services to you.
